"British forces should buy off potential Taleban recruits with 'bags of gold', according to a new army field manual published yesterday. "
I had to write something on this, its just to moronic.
As a history major at UCCS co springs, I have studied many civilizations who have attempted to "pay off" the bad guys.
Without fail, the once weaker and disorganized enemy will want a little more money than the provider is willing to offer. Strengthened from all of the "please don't attack us! Here take our money!" The once lesser party rises up and completely takes over and destroys the other.
This is seen as far back in history as Rome.
Rome wished to pay off attacking tribes.
They gave them a certain amount of money to stay away.
Eventually the tribes got greedy and totally ransacked Rome.
This process is also seen with piracy.
A simmilar story is also told in WWII and Adolf Hitler.
The Alies were slow to get involved.
Why?
Because we thought he would stay true to his word.
Just one more piece of land.
Unfortunately we were mistaking.

Veronica,
ReplyDeleteThe validity of your argument is flawed. As a "history major" you should know the importance of facts and citations, of which you have none. A good research method includes sources; this reason alone, invalidates any argument you wish to make. Lets take a look at it:
First: The British have been paying off the Taliban for years, first to stop poppy seed production, then to stop recruitment.Does it work? Questionable. But then again, this country isn't British. We are American, we control that fight, the British just assist us. The outcome of the war will not depend on what they do.
Second: The Roman Empire didn't collapse due to the barbarian invasions. Certainly that was a part of it. Primarily though, the Romans were unable to compete economically with a new system that gradually took over their land, trade routes, and food supplies both from Egypt and the Asian plains. This system was the spread of Islam and the conversion of previously Roman citizens to it. Sound familiar to the present day?
Third: Modern piracy will soon be dead. Anti-piracy measures have been taken by major navies and private security firms around the world. Pirate "hot spot" areas such as the Straits of Malacca and Somalia are being heavily patrolled. Major container ships rarely venture there anymore.
Four: I hope you mean the Allies were slow to stop Hitler's spread into Austria and the Czech Republic through the concept of lebensraum because they sure as hell were not slow to get involved once he invaded Poland. The only slow major power was the United States and we even were involved from the start, providing economic support to the Allies.
That should conclude my counter to your unresearched postulation.
By the way, a degree in history from UCCS is like a degree in physical education from a junior college. Completely useless and irrelevant just like a career in female MMA. So the next time you decide to blog your rants on this page, please do a spelling and grammar check so we can actually understand it.
